Who is Dennis Day?

All my life people have been asking me if I know who the "real" Dennis Day is. He must've been a great guy because 95% of the people older than me remember him like it was yesterday. For the uninformed, the "real" Dennis Day was an actor and singer who is most known for his performances with Jack Benny. The weirdest thing was when he died on my birthday in 1988.

Hello! My name is Dennis Day. On July 8, 2022 I was married to Rebecca Lynn Parish, who is the loving mother of Andrew Pratt. I am a parent of three. Ryan and Alex are my 28 year old twin sons, and Brandon Tyler, who is now 26, is the third boy. We live and work in Columbus, Ohio.

I am currently employed by Deloitte Consulting LLP I have been a computer software consultant for over 28 years; focused on creating custom solutions to complex problems through the power of computer software, while remaining on-time and under budget! The remainder of this page is a look at my personal computing history.

I wrote my first computer program in 1984. It was a simple text game, written in BASIC on a TRS-80, but it opened the doors to who I would become. In the years since, I have written thousands of algorithms into hundreds of different programs, using dozens of different languages on just as many various operating systems and platforms.

In my professional life I have had the opportunity to write software that has been used by millions of simultaneous users. My work as a consultant has been as lead architect and developer of eCommerce sites that have streamlined the entry, validation, and processing of billions of dollars in orders.

My current expertise is primarily in Oracle CPQ. This meshes will with my previous eCommerce expeience on web sites created using Microsoft ASP.Net and accessing SQL databases. I also appreciate XML, XSLT, and CSS, and I am very familiar with JavaScript and Dynamic HTML programming for browsers. My past experience includes Assembler in my youth, C and C++ programming for both UNIX and Microsoft O/S at CompuServe, TCP/IP sockets, PERL, Visual Basic, and more. I am strongest when engaged in multiple interesting projects.

Employment History

  • 2021-present Deloitte Consulting, LLP In Novemberr 2021, I was hired by Deloitte Consulting, LLP as an Oracle CPQ Senior Specialist. So far, Deloitte has been a wonderful company to work for, with excellent benefits including both a matching 401k plan and a Pension after 3 years, with great health care, an annual bonus, and excellent compensation. They also offer extended disconnect periods during holidays, such as a full week of paid holiday time for Christmas.
  • 2020-2021 Vertiv I was hired as Lead Software Developer, Oracle CPQ. I really wanted to be hired as an Architect, but it is what it is. Vertiv was formerly Liebert, then Emerson Network Power, was purchased by a venture capital firm, and went public as Vertiv. They had a habit of furloughing their employees to try to meet earnings, so not my cup of tea over the long term.
  • 2018-2020 Sogeti USA Betty Keck and Linda Schweiterman, founders of ETCI, decided to retire in 2018 and shut down the company. I had to scramble to find an approved firm to take over my contract at Liebert, which had been spun off as Vertiv. I landed at Sogeti and after an initial pay cut followed by a 1% pay raise after the firt year, decided it was time to move on. LOL
  • 2004-2018 Expert Technical Consultants, Inc. I went back to ETCI because I loved the people there. I continued my consulting career with diverse work for Loeb Electric, Liebert Corporation, Malone Industries, and UFCW of Central Ohio.
  • 2001 - 2004 Dennis Dayta Systems, I started a sole proprietorship and supported my family as an eCommerce consultant. The business still limps along on one leg, but most of my income today is through ETCI.
  • 2000 - 2001 The Thompson Group, was an interesting company to work for but required me to fly on airplanes and sleep in hotel rooms far more than the 10% of time I was offered, and that's the main reason I left.
  • 1996-2000 Expert Technical Consultants, Inc. Windows Software Consulting work for Columbus based companies as diversified as Qwest, Ross Laboratories, Lucent Technologies Training centers, and Liebert Corporation.
  • 1992-1996 CompuServe's Information Service. In my first professional position, I spent nearly five years creating and maintaining the server side software of CompuServe's proprietary networking protocols.
